Nueve mil personas se habían reunido en el alto valle de Shechen, a casi 4.000 metros de altitud, para recibir la bendición de Dilgo Khyentse Yangsi Rinpoche. Equipado con un objetivo de 400 mm, me encontraba muy lejos de este hombre, sentado entre la multitud, preguntándome si era realmente a él a quien apuntaba y quién era yo.El primer retrato expresa incertidumbre, cierta distancia, un toque de desconfianza, un interrogante.Tras el primer disparo, salí del visor de la cámara y le miré. De repente, el hombre se dio cuenta de que era a él a quien estaba fotografiando y, además, me reconoció. Desde la distancia, me dedicó una sonrisa hermosa, benévola y divertida (2010).
In June 1995, Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche (1910-1991), one of the great masters of Tibetan Buddhism of our time, visited Tibet for the first time since his 30-year exile. As an intriguing coincidence would have it, twenty-five years later in June 2010 the young lama considered as his reincarnation visited the very same places in Eastern Tibet. He was welcomed with the same fervor as his predecessor, and was accompanied by Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche, Khyentse Rinpoche’s grandson and abbot of Shechen Monastery, who had been a part of the first visits with Khyentse Rinpoche.
