The (modified) Proust Questionnaire — 3

From an interview recently published in the French press (continued).

What do you think is the most important ecological step we can take?

We should not live off the death of sentient beings who ask only to remain alive. Although this is not the main reason for my being vegetarian since 40 years, we should not forget that to ‟produce” one kilo of meat, 15 kg of food are needed, which could be used to feed more people. In addition, it is estimated that the raising of livestock used for our consumption contributes to more than 18% of global warming, i.e., the same level as cars.

What are you most proud of in your life?

I have had the immense fortune of spending a great many years at the side of spiritual masters who are imbued with wisdom and compassion.

Who are your heroes?

My spiritual masters, Kangyur Rinpoche and Khyentse Rinpoche, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and, on the level of commitment to a noble cause, Gandhi.

What drives you?

The will to strive for personal transformation in order to be of better service to others.

What has the financial crisis changed for you?

I redouble my efforts concerning the humanitarian projects that I take care of through the Karuna-Shechen foundation.
