Glacier of Vatnajökull, Iceland

The Lake Pingvellir was the meeting place of one of the oldest parliaments in the world, the Alþing, which was founded there in 930, less than a century after the beginning of Iceland’s colonization. In 1930, during the millennial celebrations of the Parliament, this site was declared the first national park of the country and on June 17, 1944, it was here that the republic and the end of the Danish-Icelandic union were proclaimed.
