Power and Care with His Holiness the Dalai Lama

“One of the great problems of history is that the concepts of love and power have usually been contrasted as opposites, so that love is identified with a resignation of power, and power with a denial of love,” said Martin Luther King.

“We’ve got to get this thing right, ” he added, emphasizing that power without care, without love and compassion, can easily become a source of exploitation, abuse and suffering. Care without power or love as merely a feeling may lack the strength and resolve necessary to bring about the changes that are needed to better the world.

Mind & Life Europe will host Power & Care
, a two and a half day Mind and Life Dialogue with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and leading experts from around the world. The conference will take place in Brussels, from September 9-11, 2016.

It will explore how to best combine and balance Power and Care in order to serve humanity and the nine million other species that are our co-citizens on Earth.

Our discussions will include perspectives from the fields of anthropology, ethology, psychology, neuroscience, economics, governance, social activism, and from the world’s contemplative traditions.

Along with the main dialogues, a selection of experiential workshops will enable participants to work on the dynamics of power and care within themselves. There will also be a piano recital and a puppet performance on the first evening.

In addition to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and his interpreter Thupten Jinpa, Ph.D., speakers will include:
